As race courses evolve to be as technically challenging as some backcountry epics, Pivot’s next generation race/trail geometry is the answer to hitting everything just a little bit faster on every lap.

The Mach 4 Carbon frame is produced using our proprietary hollow core internal molding process, combined with highly optimized layup structures, tube sections, and material choices, tuned for the optimumride-feel in every size. Frames weigh as little as 5.1lbs (2.3kg) and complete bikes are available under 22 (10kg) lbs.

The new Mach 4 Carbon features a fully redesigned rear triangle with increased stiffness and more tire clearance. For riders seeking high performance, trail bike capability on technical terrain and high-speed descents, the sub-4 lb., 130mm travel Fox 34 embodies confidence and control. Additional complete bike highlights include Maxxis Ardent 2.35 tires and 740mm wide riser bars with shorter stems per size catering to a more trail oriented riding style.

The Mach 4 Carbon is a race-tested and proven choice. For competitive athletes, we offer the Mach 4 Carbon complete bikes with an optional XC Race package. ur approach to rider-size-specific geometry relies on a balanced fit and adjusted geometry to maintain correct wheelbase length and handling to properly accommodate the proportions of every size ride, including smaller athletes. Our S and XS sizes are built with shorter head tubes to create more stand-over height, enabling you to ride in a centered, athletic position with tons of clearance over the top tube – essential to attacking descents and cornering with confidence and speed.

We create the same handling experience across the range by engineering specifically each frame size. Size-specific carbon molds enable us to use smaller diameters and unique carbon layups for lighter frames in the small sizes while maintaining the same high strength in a more compact design. Additionally, for riders on our extra small bikes, Pivot’s Float DPX2 tune offers an incredibly wide range of shock tuning which enables us to set up the Mach 6 Carbon for a diverse range of rider weights and abilities.

Pivot complete bikes are also designed to intelligently address real-world rider differences, with the option to choose women’s specific saddle on any size as well as shorter crank lengths on our XS sizes.

The Mach 4 Carbon is the ultimate lightweight, flickable trail bike. Let’s start with the weight—or lack of it. The Mach 4 Carbon’s frame weighs a mere 5.1 pounds (2.3kg). Complete bikes tip the scales at less than 22 pounds (10kg). In other words, it’s a featherweight; it got that way thanks to both our proprietary hollow-core, internal molding process and a combination of highly optimized layup structures, tube sections, and material choices.

At Pivot, however, we don’t believe that “lightweight” should ever equal “flexy”. That’s why the new Mach 4 Carbon features a fully redesigned rear triangle that boosts stiffness and tire clearance. The confident handling of the Mach 4 Carbon also gets a boost from its mid-sized 27.5” wheels and flex-fighting Boost 148 rear hub spacing.

We paired this race-tuned version of dw-link™ with Fox’s Float DPS rear shock, which we custom tuned to provide pro-level, pedaling performance and the bottomless feel of a longer-travel bike with no sacrifice in efficiency. Combined with the dw‐link’s® patented position‐sensitive anti‐squat, these suspension features give you even better traction on steep ups and over rough terrain.

FAQS

Which size bike should I purchase?

To ensure the best sizing, we recommend that you visit your local Pivot dealer to get a professional fit and refer to our geometry chart to check your measurements. However, we can provide a rough guideline: 
X-Small: 4'10" – 5’5”
Small: 5'4" – 5’8”
Medium: 5'7” – 5’10"
Large: 5'10” – 6’0”
Large (long): 5'10"- 6'3"

What is a Large (long)?

The Large long version of the Mach 4 offers a longer reach measurement than the standard large while fitting a similar to slightly taller height range as the standard large frame. With the Mach 4’s very low stand-over height, and excellent trail bike performance, many riders are stepping up a frame size to get a longer front center which works well for more technical terrain with a shorter stem. This meant that even some riders just under 6’ were left without a perfect option so we added this additional size. This puts the reach measurement of the large long Mach 4 close to that of the new Switchblade. Can I use a dropper post with this frame?

Yes, internally dropper posts are compatible with the Mach 4 Carbon.

What dropper post length should I use?

The Mach 4 Carbon features a low stand-over height, and short seat tubes allow the use of longer travel dropper posts and/or more flexibility for a wider range of rider sizes.

There are limitations that each dropper post have for each frame size based on the individual rider’s saddle height, so it is important to check fit before choosing the travel and model of dropper post for your Mach 4 Carbon. How do I set the sag on my bike?

Will a large water bottle fit inside the front triangle?

Yes, the Mach 4 Carbon was designed to clear a large water bottle on top of the down tube. For best clearance, we suggest removing the rear shock and swapping the spacer hardware from front to rear. Re-install the shock with the air can side facing the rear triangle and the compression/rebound adjuster facing down, away from the top tube. This will open up the clearance significantly at the front, allowing easy access to larger bottles. This is the setup that all of our racers run, and we designed the frame to be run with a flipped shock for those wanting to use large bottles.

We also include a spacer to be placed under the upper water bottle cage mount that changes the angle of the water bottle cage enough to provide the extra clearance required to prevent a large water bottle from rubbing against the down tube.

What is the hub/wheel spacing?

The Mach 4 Carbon uses Boost 148mm x 12mm hub/wheel spacing. This hub design has wider flanges, so you cannot change the end caps to convert an existing 135mm, 142mm, 150mm, or 157mm hub.

What is the thread pitch on the rear axle?

Pivot uses a 1.5 thread pitch on the rear thru axle - these can be purchased on our online store.

What is the size of the seatpost?

30.9mm

What is the size of the seat clamp?

34.9mm (or 35mm as some manufacturers call it)

What front derailleur does the Mach 4 Carbon use?

A hight direct mount (DM) side swing front derailleur only - Shimano produces the side-swing front derailleur in Deore & SLX for 10-speed drivetrains and XT & XTR for 11-speed drivetrains.

How wide of a tire can I fit on the Mach 4 Carbon?

You can fit a 2.6" tire on the Mach 4 Carbon, depending on the rim width. 

What crank and bottom bracket will work with the Mach 4 Carbon?

All cranks designed for the Boost system and use a Pressfit BB92 bottom bracket will work on your Mach 4 Carbon. 

What bottom bracket do I need?

Pressfit BB92

Can I use a non-Boost crankset?

You can use non-Boost:
Race Face Next SL 1x cranks
Shimano XT and XTR 1x11 cranks (with 30t or 32t)
Shimano XT and XTR 2x11 cranks (with 24t/34t or 26t,36t)

There may be other 2x non-Boost cranksets available that will work, though it will depend on the chainline and chainring size. If the chainline is not out far enough, the front derailleur clearance may be tight when shifting into the small ring - the front derailleur mount has been shifted outwards to accommodate the Boost design.

What is the narrowest Q-Factor crank I can run?

163mm is the narrowest Q-factor measurement that the Mach 4 Carbon will accept.

What headset do I need?

Zero stack (ZS) 44mm top and ZS 56mm bottom (or a Chris King Inset 2)

What is the largest rotor I can fit?

180mm

Do I need a rear brake adapter?

No rear brake adapter is needed for a 160mm rotor. If you would like to put a 180mm rotor on, you will need a direct mount post-to-post adapter. 

What travel fork can I use?

The Mach 4 Carbon was designed for fork lengths between 100mm-130mm. 

What is the fork offset?

44mm

What is the eye-to-eye shock length and stroke length?

For the extra small size -
eye-to-eye: 6.5"
stroke: 1.5"

For all other sizes - 
eye-to-eye: 7.25"
stroke: 1.75"

What do I need to know if I want to run a different brand shock?

You'll need the proper shock mounting hardware. For the front of the shock, the hardware is 8mm x 22mm. For the rear of the shock, the hardware is 8mm x 36mm.

Additionally, we designed the frame around a standard air can volume size with light to medium compression valving and light rebound valving.

Why does the extra small frame feature 100mm of travel?

During development, we found that 100mm of travel allowed us to get the best combination of stand over clearance, rider fitment, and shock tune for the target height/weight of an extra small rider.
