PIVOT CARBON

Pivot utilizes a proprietary hollow-core internal molding technology to create the highest quality handmade carbon frames available.

Where other frames require hours of touch-up work - filling voids and imperfections with heavy epoxy after they leave the molds - our hollow core molding technology produces a lighter and stiffer frame that is correct, beautiful and precise from the start. Pivot’s hollow core molding process employs hard internal forms for both layup and molding to provide consistent pressures, the highest levels of compaction and extremely tight tolerances over the entire frame structure. This ultra precise layup method can be optimized to provide the perfect ride feel for every model and size, and is a key to producing the renowned Pivot ride quality.

CABLE PORT SYSTEM

Say hello to the easiest, cleanest and quietest cable routing solution – beloved by mechanics and Pivot owners alike.

Say goodbye to fishing for cables and never listen to rattling housing again. This future-proof internal routing offers huge access ports for fast, easy assembly, universal housing clamps that keep your bike quiet, full Shimano Di2 integration, and compatibility with all gearing and dropper configurations. The Pivot Cable Port System is easily updated to accommodate new technologies, making it the only future-proof routing system available.

NEW SCHOOL RACING GEOMETRY

Pivot's geometry puts the rider "in" the bike.

The race winning Mach 429SL Carbon geometry is tried and tested at tested at the biggest events in the world. On the uphill, you benefit from the latest in dw‐link® suspension design with a Fox Float DPS Kashima Factory shock, performance‐tuned specifically for the Mach 429SL Carbon. You can expect the kind pedaling efficiency our National Champions demand, provided by dw‐link®’s anti‐squat characteristics, instant acceleration and unparalleled climbing traction.

Assembled to Perfection

Pivot complete bikes are more than the sum of their parts – every single component is selected to give you the best experience on the trail and our assembly process is the best in the business, bar none.

Tires: For each of our bikes, we include the best version of every Maxxis tire model for each application – choosing rubber compounds, tubeless and sidewall technologies that are perfect for your specific Pivot.

Cockpit: Custom designed Phoenix Components work as a system to enhance cockpit comfort and control on every Pivot bike. To learn more about how these components enhance the quality of your ride, see here. (links to component page)

Wheels: All Pivot bikes include the best wheel technologies available from our partners. Universal features across models include easy to set up, reliable, tubeless systems, quick engagement hubs for immediate engagement off the line, and light durable materials.

Saddle: Pivot bikes feature WTB saddles that are specially made with the best, most durable, memory foam and feature a special hidden cutout for long ride comfort. The Switchblade complete bikes include rider’s choice of either the high performance Volt saddle or the Deva women’s saddle. We take quality and workmanship seriously at Pivot, and know that the details are what make a great rider experience.

Every Pivot Cycles frame undergoes a 28-step assembly and quality control check to ensure that every ride on your new bike exceeds expectations.

WOMEN’S BIKES

At Pivot, we believe the bike should fit the rider, not the other way around.

Our approach to rider-size-specific geometry relies on a balanced fit and adjusted geometry to maintain correct wheelbase length and handling to properly accommodate the proportions of a smaller rider.

Our smaller sizes are built with shorter head tubes to create more stand-over height, enabling smaller-statured riders to achieve a centered, athletic, position on the bike with tons of clearance over the top tube – essential to descending and cornering with confidence and speed.

Size-specific carbon molds enable Pivot's engineers to utilize smaller tube diameters and unique carbon layups for lighter size small and size extra small frames – all while maintaining the same strength standards, pedaling efficiency and frame stiffness as are found in larger size Pivot bikes.

Lighter shock tuning and leverage rates enable us to achieve the ideal ride feel for a diverse range of rider weights and ride styles.

Pivot complete bike specifications intelligently address real-world rider differences, with the option to choose women’s specific saddle on any size and shorter cranks offered on our S and XS sizes.

FAQS

Which size bike should I purchase?

To ensure the best sizing, we recommend that you visit your local Pivot dealer to get a professional fit and refer to our geometry chart to check your measurements. However, we can provide a rough guideline:

Small: 5'4" – 5’9” Medium: 5'9" – 6’1” Large: 6'1" – 6’4” X-Large: 6'3" +

How do I set the sag on my Mach 429 SL?

We make it easy to get the best ride out of your Pivot bike with a simple sag indicator already installed on your bike, and this follow-along video featuring our own Bernard Kerr: .

https://vimeo.com/pivotcycles/sag

What hub/wheel spacing does the Mach 429SL use?

The Mach 429SL uses the Boost 148mm X 12mm hub/wheel spacing. This is a new hub design with wider flanges so you cannot take a current 135mm, 142mm, 150mm, or 157mm hub and change end caps to convert an existing hub

What size wheels can I run on the Mach 429 SL Carbon?

The Mach 429SL Carbon is compatible with both 29” and 27.5”+ wheelsize

How wide of a tire can I run on the Mach 429SL Carbon?

The Mach 429SL Carbon fits 29” tires up to 2.35” and 27.5”+ tires up to 2.8”

Can I run a large water bottle on the Mach 429SL Carbon?

Yes, the Mach 429SL carbon was designed to clear a large water bottle on top of the down tube. For best clearance, we suggest removing the rear shock and swapping the spacer hardware from front to rear and then re-installing the shock with the air can side facing the rear triangle and the CTD adjusters facing up towards the top tube. This will open up the clearance significantly at the front allowing easy access to the larger bottles. This is the set up all our racers run and we designed the frame to be run this way for those wanting to use large bottles.

What is the thread pitch on the rear axle?

Pivot uses a 1.5 thread pitch on the rear thru axle. You can order one through our online store.

What size seatpost does the Mach 429SL Carbon use?

The Mach 429SL Carbon frame uses a 30.9mm seatpost.

What size seat clamp does the Mach 429SL Carbon use?

The Mach 429SL Carbon frame uses a 34.9mm or 35mm (as some manufacturers call it) seatpost clamp.

Can I use a dropper post with this frame?

The Mach 429SL is designed for an internal routing dropper post, so any internally routed dropper post is compatible.

What cranks and bottom bracket will the Mach 429SL Carbon accept?

The Mach 429SL Carbon will accept all cranks designed for the BOOST system and compatible with a press fit 92mm bottom bracket. BOOST system means that the rear hub spacing is 148mm and the chain-rings have been shifted out approximately 3mm from where a tradition crank designed for a 142mm rear hub would be so that the chainrings will line up properly with the new position of the cassette on the 148mm rear hub

Can I run non-Boost™ cranks on my Mach 429SL Carbon?

In some cases you can run a conventional non-BOOST 1x or 2x crank. The Race Face NEXT 1x and other Cinch system 1x cranks are dual compatible between standard 142mm and 148mm Boost rear ends. Some smaller chainring combinations - 1x (30 and 32T) Shimano XT and XTR 11 - will also work. In some cases 2x standard cranks may also work with 24/34, 26/36 and 22/36 combinations. Shimano’s new 11-Speed XTR and XT standard cranks feature both 24/34 and 26/36 chainring options which work perfectly with the Mach 429SL Carbon frame as Shimano’s chainline dimensions already tend to run wider than others in the market. There may be other 2x non- boost cranks available that will work although it is dependent on specific chainline and chainring size. If the chainline is not out far enough, the front derailleur clearance may be tight when shifting into the small ring as the front derailleur mount on the Mach 429SL Carbon is also shifted outwards to accommodate the BOOST design.

What front derailleur does the Mach 429SL Carbon use?

The Mach 429SL Carbon uses a DM (direct mount) Shimano side-swing style front derailleur only. Shimano produces the side-swing front derailleur in Deore and SLX for 10 speed drivetrains and in SLX, XT and XTR for 11 speed drivetrain.

What is the maximum size chain ring I can put on my Mach 429SL Carbon?

The maximum size chain ring that will clear on the Mach 429SL Carbon is a 34-tooth.

Can I mount a chain guide on my Mach 429SL Carbon?

Yes. The Mach 429SL carbon features ISCG05 mounts on the frame. Most upper guides on the market will fit. For full upper and lower guides, you will need a wide angle design.

What headset do I need for the Mach 429SL Carbon?

The Mach 429SL Carbon uses a ZS (zero stack) 44mm top and (zero stack) 56mm bottom, or a Chris King Inset 2.

How large of a rotor will fit on the Mach 429SL Carbon?

The Mach 429SL Carbon will clear either a 160mm or 180mm rotor.

What type of rear brake adapter do I need for the Mach 429 SL Carbon?

No brake adapter is needed for a 160mm rotor. However, if you prefer a 180mm rotor, you will need a 160mm to 180mm post mount adapter.

What travel fork can I use on my Mach 429SL Carbon?

The Mach 429SL Carbon was designed for either a 100mm or 120mm fork. We use a 120mm fork in all our complete bike builds (although for special orders you can request a 100mm). The maximum travel length that can be used on the Mach 429SL Carbon is 130mm travel.

What is the fork offset on the Mach 429SL Carbon?

The Fox 34 120mm, which comes on all of our complete bike builds, features a 51mm offset. The Fox Stepcast 32 100mm option on our XC Race build features 44mm offset.

What is the eye-to-eye shock length and stroke length on the Mach 429SL Carbon?

The eye to eye shock length is 7.25 inches and the stroke length is 1.75 inches

If I want to run a different brand of shock on my Mach 429SL Carbon, what else do I need to know?

The Mach 429SL shock uses M8 through-bolt hardware on both the front and rear. Shock spacer dimensions are 22mm wide front and 36mm wide rear. The frame is designed around a standard sized air can volume and we typically run light to medium valving on the compression side (depending on rider weight) and light rebound damping.

Can I put a coil-over shock on my Mach 429SL Carbon?

You cannot run a coil-over on your Mach 429SL Carbon. The Mach 429SL Carbon was designed to work with the progressiveness of an air spring. A coil-over shock (even one with separate bottoming control) does not offer the progressive spring curve that the Mach 429SL requires. Running a coil-over shock on the Mach 429SL will result in hard bottoming and damage to the frame that will not be covered under the warranty policy.

What are the torque specs?
